Why does hardware design go wrong so often?

Most hardware projects fail in the gap between "it works on my bench" and "it works in a customer's hands". Boards that were never designed for EMC testing, components that go end-of-life mid-project, and layouts that can't be assembled at volume are the usual culprits. We design for production from the first schematic — because we also ship our own products and live with the consequences of our design decisions.

Hardware and firmware, together

Electronics rarely fails in isolation — the expensive bugs live at the boundary between hardware and firmware. Because our firmware team sits in the same room as our hardware team, those boundary problems get caught in design review, not in the field.
